Background: Currently, the use of the mnemonic FAST HUGS BID has shown that it allows to address the critical patient in a comprehensive and rapid way, focusing on interventions that improve the safety of care in this type of patients, allowing not to leave aside or forget activities in their care that directly affect their care and thus reduce the risk of complications or mortality. The participation of nursing staff in the development of these activities is relevant since this staff is the executive part of many of the care provided to patients hospitalized in critical areas. Objectives: To know the level of compliance that nursing staff has in the interventions described by this mnemonic when providing care to critically ill patients since these, due to their serious condition, are more susceptible and in a state of total dependence on the care of nursing staff for the provision of their care. Methods: An evaluation was carried out on the activities recorded by the nursing staff based on the mnemonic FAST HUGS BID in the records that corresponded to the patients hospitalized in the adult intensive care unit at the Naval Medical Center between May and July 2018. One nursing sheet was taken at random from each record, thus searching for the records made corresponding to the aforementioned mnemonic, the interventions that have greater or lesser participation by the nursing staff, as well as which are the activities with the greatest strength and areas for improvement to improve safety in care. A total of 50 records were obtained through the records, of which 8 records had to be discarded because they were incomplete, leaving a total sample of 42 records. Results: Regarding the interventions F, S (sedation), D, G, the nursing staff complies between 88% and 95% with the compliance and/or registration of these activities. The interventions with the lowest number of records correspond to letters A, H, S (spontaneous breathing) and had a non-compliance level ranging from 90% to 100% due to lack of records by the nursing staff. Finally, it was observed that in relation to letter B, patients on average have constipation with an average of 10 days without records of evacuations.
