    ABSTRACT:

Cracked Tooth Syndrome is a common condition. In a major percent of cases etiology is primarily the after effect of a dental procedure .The patient is often unable to identify the offending tooth or quadrant involved, and may report a history of a dental procedure with unsatisfactory results. Clinicians need to have a thorough understanding regarding this concept to mitigate the commencement of crack propagation in tooth after a restorative procedure. This article is a comprehensive literature review about the incidence, prevalence, etiology and pathogenesis of CTS from contemporarily available data.

    ABSTRACT:

Objective: To study the prevalence and nature of ocular morbidity amongst the industrial workers in select industries in Goa. Material and methods: Three industries were purposefully chosen for the study. The industries studied were: a chemical and fertilizer industry; a ship building industry and a rubber tyres manufacturing industry. The total worker strength at the selected three industries of 2886 was the study population for this study. The study was conducted ‘on site’ through a mobile eye care unit. Each worker was subjected to thorough ophthalmic evaluation. Data was entered in predesigned format and analysed using SPSS software. Results: The overall prevalence of ocular morbidity was 32.1% among the workers in the three industries. The prevalence of acute industrial eye trauma was 2.2%. The highest prevalence of ocular injury was in ship building industry at 2.7% followed by rubber industry (2.3%) while it was lowest in chemical industry (1.3%). Around 62.5% of ocular injuries occurred because the workers failed to use safety eyewear provided by the company. The combined prevalence of conjunctival melanosis, pterygium, pingecula and chronic conjunctivitis was found to be 7.2% among all the workers. Conclusion: Almost all of occupational eye disorders are more easily prevented than treated. Several preventive measures are now available. With such preventive measures readily available both employers and employees must work aggressively to decrease the number of workers affected with an occupational eye disorders.

    ABSTRACT:

Introduction: Domestic violence against women is a serious public health concern in every community and culture (Hyman I 2000). It has drawn attention from the medical community because it has a negative and harmful impact on the mental, physical, and social health of women (Heise L et al 1999) (Jewkes R 2002),( Diaz O.2002) and (Keeling J 2004). The world health organization reports that the proportion of women who had ever experienced physical or sexual violence or both by an intimate partner ranged from 15% to 71%, with the majority between 29% and 62% (who 2007). The domestic violence is a complex issue to research as the extent and forms of its occurrence remain largely hidden and there is a great degree of social acceptance of the issue. Obejctives: To study socio cultural & demographic factors related to domestic violence and to assess help seeking behaviour. Methods and material: A cross sectional study was conducted among class IV workers colony, JJH hospital campus Mumbai. A semi structured questionnaire was used to collect information about violence and other variables. Statistical analysis: chi square test of significance using open epi software. Results: The prevalence of domestic violence was 52%.Out of this physical violence constituted 9.7%, psychosocial violence constituted 66%, economic violence constituted 14.6% and combined violence was 9.7%.The socio-demographic variables like age, education, employment, duration since marriage, family composition were found to be significantly associated with domestic violence. Conclusions: The social, demographic, cultural, economic factors limit women’s response to violence.

    ABSTRACT:

Background: In bilateral partial edentulous condition modified Mc Lean’s Impression technique is most commonly advised, this over impression procedure may be time consuming clinically and possible errors too can be induced while recording. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy ofsingle custom tray using medium body elastomeric impression material overmodified Mc Lean’s impression procedure using Zinc oxide eugenol impression paste. Material and Methods: Six patients were selected with bilateral edentulous span in mandibular arch with at least all the molars missing. Patient was subjected to three different impression procedures and cast were constructed. Standardized acrylic occlusal platform was constructed and at three points of the edentulous span the vertical tissue displacement occurring due to different impression procedure was measured. ANOVA test showed the significance, post-hoc testing TukeyHSD was performed to explore the difference among the groups. Results:The relative difference of edentulous tissue displacebility between irreversible hydrocolloid and custom tray A with medium body elastomeric impression material was -0.38, -0.92, -0.67 at 5mm from last present tooth, midway, retromolar pad respectively. At the same three points the difference of edentulous tissue displacebility between hydrocolloid impression procedure and custom tray B with Zinc oxide eugenol impression paste was -0.17, -0.66, -0.52. Study showed at all three positions of edentulous span the tissue displacebility was better with custom tray A using medium body elastomeric impression material and showed a statistical good agreement. Conclusion: Single custom tray and use of medium body elastomeric impression material obtains better functional impression of distal extension edentulous span. This will help clinicians in reducing the chair side time and eliminates errors induced from two stage functional impression techniques.

    ABSTRACT:

This study was conducted to determine the effect of teaching and learning styles on students’ academic achievement in General Chemistry 1. There were 13 teachers and 123 students who were administered the Teaching Style Instrument and the Learning Style Inventory (LSI), respectively. Final grades of students were taken as evidence of their academic achievement. Findings revealed that teaching styles were transitional in teaching methods, student grouping, room design, teaching environment, teaching characteristics and educational philosophy. Based on LSI, students have strong preferences for cool temperature and an early morning time-of-day. Most students were cautious on other learning style preferences because they chose “it depends” as their reply. As to the effect of teaching and learning styles on student’s academic achievement, emotional preference was highly significant in all of the eight areas of teaching styles studied. This study concluded that teaching and learning styles affect students’ academic achievement.

    ABSTRACT:

Study of lipid profile in young smokers provides opportunity to explain the physiological consequences of the cigarette smoking activity. As the current report concerns solely to the study of lipid profile in normal healthy controls and smoking male subjects, the results of this study can be correlated with other biochemical, physiological and clinical aspects. This approach is hence, helpful for the future studies in understanding the underlying mechanism causing series of changes influenced by smoking activity.
