    ABSTRACT:

Background: The studywas conducted to investigate the effect of age and body weight of first lay on egg number and egg weight among four breeds of tortoises in two different ecological zones. A total of sixty (60) tortoises were selected from two distinct ecological zones namely: Freshwater Swamp (Greek tortoise – Testudo graeca, and West African Black Mud tortoise –Pelusioscastaneus) and lowland Rainforest (Marginated tortoise – Testudo marginata and African Spurred tortoise – Centrochelyssulcata) and their external egg quality traits (EEQTs) were assessed. The results indicated that Age at first egg (AFE) and body weight at first egg (BWFE) were significant (P<0.05) affected by egg number (EN) and egg weight (EWT). EWTshowed a similar trend toBWFEin the various genotypes studied.Testudo marginataexhibited the maximumEN and AFE, with Pelusioscastaneus, Testudo graeca, and Centrochlyssulcata showing progressively lower values.BWFE was highest in T.graeca decreasing through C.sulcata, and T.marginata, toP.castaneus. Highest egg quality traits values were recorded in T.marginata, followed in descending order by T. graeca, C.sulcata and P.castaneus. These results illustrate the, potential of T. marginata for egg production and quality enhancement. In conclusion, the evidence demonstrates superior egg laying performance and quality traits in this humid region, highlighting their suitability for micro-livestock production.

    ABSTRACT:

Background: Open simple prostatectomy (OSP) remains a valuable surgical option for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in developing countries, especially patients with significantly enlarged prostate. Uroflowmetry, a non-invasive urodynamic test, plays a key role in both pre-operative assessment and post-operative evaluation of such patients. This study examined the role of uroflowmetry in outcome measure following OSP and explores the clinical implications of these measures. Methods: Fifty patients who had open simple prostatectomy were recruited into the study. Each patient had uroflowmetry (Oakfield Flowmate 2, 2003). The Qmax in each patient was noted and documented. Results: 33 of the 50 patients (66%) studied were on urethral catheter pre-operatively. The mean preoperative Qmax of patients that were not on catheter pre-operatively was 6.4 ± 1.6 ml/s. Post-operatively, there was a marked improvement in uroflowmetry parameters: mean Qmax increased to 22.52 ± 5.16 mls/s (p < 0.001). The mean PVR reduced from 160 mls pre-operatively to 20 mls post-operatively. Conclusion: Open simple prostatectomy significantly enhances uroflowmetry outcomes in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, validating its role in the objective outcome measure following OSP.

    ABSTRACT:

This study evaluates the level of methodological transparency and potential reproducibility in patent-based technological prospecting dissertations developed within the Professional Graduate Program in Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer for Innovation (PROFNIT). A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, resulting in the analysis of 23 dissertations defended between 2016 and 2026. The study applied an adapted methodological compliance checklist based on international standards for patent landscape studies. The results revealed high levels of conformity regarding the definition of databases, search strategies, analytical methods, and presentation of quantitative findings. The dissertations demonstrated strong alignment with internationally recognized practices in technological intelligence and patent analysis, particularly through the use of IPC and CPC classifications. However, important weaknesses were identified concerning dataset sharing, documentation transparency, and discussion of methodological limitations. Only a minority of the studies provided complete access to the analyzed patent corpus, limiting auditability and reproducibility. The findings indicate that PROFNIT has achieved significant operational maturity in technological prospecting studies, although challenges remain regarding open science practices and methodological standardization. The study contributes to discussions on transparency, scientific reliability, and quality standards in patent landscape research.

    ABSTRACT:

    ABSTRACT:

This study investigates employees’ perceptions of occupational stress and its impacts within the operational units of the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ). Based on a sample of 427 respondents, distributed across four categories according to the formula proposed by J. P. Beaud and B. Marien (2003), and later adapted by J. E. G. Yetongnon and T. R. G. Kadjegbin (2020, p. 172), the data were processed using Excel 2021 to assess the predominance of opinions. The findings reveal four principal sources of stress, identified by an average of 94.61% of participants: organizational, relational, individual, and environmental factors. These stressors generate major consequences, including decreased productivity and work quality, heightened risks of accidents and errors, deterioration of physical and mental health, weakening of social relationships, and increased turnover, as perceived by 75.98% of male respondents and 73.46% of female respondents. Stress is distinguished into three main forms: acute stress, chronic stress, and burnout/organizational stress. To address these challenges, a majority of 77.36% of employees (330 individuals) recommend strengthening internal communication and social dialogue, improving working conditions, integrating stress as a performance indicator, expanding career development opportunities, and implementing support, recognition, and valorization program.

    ABSTRACT:

Background: Electronic music devices are reshaping music pedagogy globally, yet evidence on their deployment in post-conflict urban settings in sub-Saharan Africa remains scarce. Lower secondary schools in Gulu City, Northern Uganda, have begun acquiring digital keyboards and music software, yet systematic evidence on their pedagogical deployment, affordances, and structural barriers to effective use is absent from the literature. Objectives: This study investigated the pedagogical affordances of electronic music devices in lower secondary school music education in Gulu City, identified infrastructure challenges constraining their integration, and examined hybrid instructional models constructed by teachers and community musicians. Methods: A qualitative mixed-methods design was employed. Purposive sampling was used to select five lower secondary schools in Gulu City. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with twelve music teachers, four focus group discussions with sixty students across Senior One to Senior Four levels, structured interviews with five school administrators, and key informant interviews with four community musicians. Thematic analysis guided data organisation and interpretation, cross-referenced against the Technology Acceptance Model and constructivist learning theory. Results: Three themes emerged. First, electronic devices expanded students' creative and compositional capacities and enhanced multimodal engagement, though pedagogical value was mediated by teacher competence and instructional intent. Second, unreliable electricity supply, inadequate maintenance budgets, and limited internet connectivity constituted persistent structural barriers that truncated the devices' instructional potential. Third, teachers and community musicians were collaboratively constructing hybrid models that wove digital tools with traditional Acholi musical practices, producing culturally responsive and contextually adaptive pedagogical approaches. Conclusions: Electronic music devices hold genuine promise for transforming lower secondary music education in Gulu City when embedded within sound pedagogical frameworks, supported by adequate infrastructure, and anchored in local cultural knowledge. Targeted investment in school electricity, in-service teacher training, and formalised community musician partnerships are recommended.

    ABSTRACT:

Heavy metal contamination in soil is a major environmental concern caused by industrial, agricultural, and mining activities, leading to the accumulation of toxic elements like chromium. This study highlights the use of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) as a reliable and sensitive technique for detecting chromium in soil samples collected from agricultural, roadside, and mining areas. The samples were properly prepared through acid digestion to ensure accurate analysis. Results showed higher chromium concentrations in contaminated sites, indicating potential risks to ecosystems and human health. AAS proved effective due to its precision and reproducibility, though it requires careful sample handling. Overall, the study emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring, pollution control, and remediation strategies to manage soil contamination and protect environmental and public health.

    ABSTRACT:

Background: Tonsillectomy remains one of the most frequently performed otorhinolaryngology procedures worldwide.Optimal surgical exposure during the procedure depends on specialized instruments such as maguaran plate and draffine bipod stand. The Maguaran plate and draffine bipod stand are indispensable tools for stabilizing the Boyle Davis month gag during tonsillectomy and similar Ear, Nose and threat (ENT) procedures. However, in low resource settings, access to standard surgical instruments such as Maguran plate and Draffin bipod stand is often limited due to cost and supply constraints. Objective: To describe the local fabrication process and evaluate the clinical effectiveness of locally fabricated Maguran plate and bipod stand used during tonsillectomy in Enugu, South East Nigeria. Method: A prospective descriptive study was conducted involving patients under going tonsillectomy using locally fabricated instruments in a secondary health facilty in Enugu, South East Nigeria. The fabricated devices were designed using stainless steel and modeled after standard Maguran plate and Draffin bipod stand.Locally fabricated Maguran plate and bipod stand were used to support the Boyle -Davis mouth gag.The instruments were tested in life surgical setting during tonsillectomy procedures on 50 patients at our ENT clinic. Outcome assessed included intraoperative stability, ease of use, operative time, complications, and surgeons satisfaction. Result: A total of 50 patients were included in the study. The locally fabricated Maguran plate and bipod stand provided adequate support for Boyle-Davis mouth gag, maintaining stable exposure throughout surgery. No significant intraoperative complications attributable to the devices were recorded. Surgeons reported satisfactory usability and comparable performance to standard instruments. The total cost of fabricated instrument was less than 10% of a standard imported equivalent. Conclusion: Locally fabricated Maguaran plates and Draffin bipod stands are cost effective, safe, and clinically effective alternatives for tonsillectomy in resources- limited settings. Wider adoption may improve surgical access in developing countries.

    ABSTRACT:

Background: Menstrual health is a critical aspect of women’s well-being across the reproductive lifespan. Menstrual disorders not only affect reproductive outcomes but also have long-term implications for physical and mental health. Variations in the timing of menarche are influenced by multiple factors, including lifestyle, environmental exposures, nutritional status, chronic illness, hormonal imbalances, and physical stress. Objective: This study aimed to examine the associated factors of menstrual and reproductive health problems among women in Bihar attending outpatient clinics, and to determine the mean age of menarche in this population. Methods: Data were collected from women presenting with menstrual health concerns at OPD clinics and hospitals. Clinical profiles were summarized using descriptive statistics, expressed as mean ± SD. Associations between age at menarche and blood pressure were assessed using group comparison tests. Results: The mean age at menarche among women in Bihar was found to be 12.6 years. A significant association was observed between age at menarche and blood pressure, with unmarried girls showing relatively lower levels, possibly linked to nutritional deficiencies. The study included 101 women aged 10–36 years. Menstrual disorders were the most commonly reported health issues (25.7%), including oligomenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, irregular cycles, and menorrhagia. Primary amenorrhea and sexual developmental concerns were more frequent among unmarried participants, while infertility-related problems were largely observed among married women (8.6%). Additionally, recurrent abortion and fetal loss were reported in 22% of married women. Conclusion: This study highlights the need for strengthened nutritional interventions for adolescent girls in Bihar to support physical and psychological development. Menstrual health issues, the primary reason for health center visits, vary by marital status: married women report abortion, fetal loss, and infertility; unmarried girls face menstrual disorders, primary amenorrhea, and poor sexual development. Regular school and college health education is crucial to raise awareness and address these challenges. Targeted policies will improve reproductive outcomes and women's health across Bihar.
