Peak expiratory flow rate in Indian female classical singers

Aim: To assess the Peak Expiratory Flow Rate in Indian Female Classical Singers. Need of study: As singers have better respiratory fitness there is need to see whether the peak expiratory flow rate in them is also higher, lower, or the same. Whether, the singing which is an expiratory activity affects expiratory flow rate. Study Design: Cross Sectional Study. Procedure: Ethical approval was taken. Total 101 Indian female classical singers were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Informed consent was obtained.

Effect of incentive spirometer on oxygen saturation in patient in intensive care unit

Background: Previous studies have revealed that incentive spirometer has an effect on oxygen saturation, highlighted in many researches, however there is a lack of literature concerning its effect on renal failure patients in intensive care unit. Purpose of the Study: to find out the effect of incentive spirometer on oxygen saturation in patient in ICU. Subjects and Methods: Forty male patients with renal failure grade II were selected from intensive care unit department, El-Fayoum General Hospital and El-Fayoum university Hospital.

Work life balance and job satisfaction among healthcare professionals in Pakistan

Constant incapability of workforce to balance work and family responsibilities may contribute negatively towards institutional performance in terms of increased absenteeism, turnover, reduced productivity, decreased organizational dedication and decreased job satisfaction. The objective of this research was to evaluate the healthcare professional’s perceptions towards the importance of different factors responsible for work-life balance and job satisfaction in Pakistan. A descriptive cross sectional study design was used.

Effectiveness of play therapy on gross manual dexterity in children with hemiparetic cerebral palsy

Background: Play therapy is now considered an important part of physical therapy programs in children with cerebral palsy. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of play therapy along with conventional physical therapy on gross manual dexterity in children with spastic hemiparetic cerebral palsy. Participants and Methods: 30 children with spastic hemiparetic cerebral palsy were divided into two equal groups; a control group received conventional physical therapy and a study group received play therapy in addition to the conventional physical therapy.

Complex regional pain syndrome - a case report

We present the case of a 68-year-old female patient, radio fracture in february 2018, for which she was hospitalized for a closed reduction with immobilization for 3 weeks. Patient referred Rehabilitation, with pain that began the day 2 weeks after removal of plaster for Colles fracture, the pain is oppressive on the back and palm of right hand, of intensity 8/10, presents allodynia, electrical discharges from fingers to forearm, constant tingling, denies burning, the pain intensifies to 10/10 intensity.

Postobstructive negative pressure pulmonary edema

Acute pulmonary negative pressure edema (NPPE) also known as post-obstructive pulmonary edema is a life-threatening clinical scenario in which pulmonary edema develops immediately after upper airway obstruction. A review of the literature suggests that in healthy adults undergoing general anesthesia the incidence of NPPE is estimated at 0.05% to 0.1% .4,5. The pathophysiology of post obstructive pulmonary edema is multifactorial, with components of pulmonary edema of negative pressure, hypoxia and hyperadrenergic state.

Statin induced myophaty - Case Report

We present the case of a 28-year-old woman, who began suffering 6 months prior to admission with weight loss, malaise, dysphagia to solids and progressive dyspnea. Anterior mediastinoscopy and lymph node biopsy were performed. In recovery it presents respiratory difficulty, CO2 80mmHg; Suggamadex is administered. Enter intensive therapy for assessment and management, is found elevation of muscle enzymes. Muscle biopsy with necrotizing myopathy associated with statins. Management with prednisone and immunoglobulin; graduating for improvement.

Incidence and outcome of myelomeningocele with surgical management at medical college hospital, Bikaner

Myelomeningocele is a neural tube defect characterized by a cleft in the vertebral column with a corresponding defect in the overlying skin leading to protrusion of the meninges and spinal cord through the defect. Myelomeningocele is the most common congential malformation of the central nervous system. The incidence of myelomeningocele has decreased all over the world significantly in the last decade. However the incidence is much higher in India and other developing countries.

Diagnostic challenges in a rare case of invasive fungal infection

IFIs are ‘presence of fungal elements either as molds or yeast in deep tissue biopsy or needle aspirates that is confirmed on culture and histopathological examination. Invasive fungal infections (IFI) have significantly increased due to advances in medical care in the ‘at risk’ immune compromised population. Diagnosis of IFIs is extremely challenging, because current diagnostic methods are not sufficiently sensitive or specific and results are often available too late to be clinically useful.
