Family dysfunction and depression in naval personnel in the active service assigned to the naval hospital of specialties of veracruz

Background: The family dysfunction is a situation that can directly affect the development of the individual by facilitating the presence of various pathologies, including depression. Taking into account that the work environment could change a subject and this in turn, to the family function, it is important to study military assets to obtain information that may be useful to the institution for its feedback. Objective: To identify the association between the Family Function and the depressive disorder in active military personnel in the Naval Hospital of Specialties of Veracruz.

Knowledge of biosafety measures in service suppliers who participatein surgical care

Health care personnel involved in the patient's surgical care are exposed to a high risk of contracting any infection during their work by not complying with established Biosecurity Measures. We emphasize the importance of complying with the Biosafety Measures to civilian personnel who participate in surgical procedures of the patient in the Naval Medical Center, evaluating the knowledge about the Biosafety Measures. The present study is observational, transverse and descriptive, where the survey “Questionnaire of knowledge on Biosafety Measures” was applied.

Functional health literacy among healthcare professionals in pakistan: the missing link

Study Objective: The objective of the present study was to measure the functional health literacy among healthcare professionals in twin cities of Pakistan. Design: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used. Setting: Tertiary care hospitals, private clinics and pharmacies located in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Method: A pre-validated tool named S-TOFHLA was utilized and distributed to a sample of 382 physicians, 236 pharmacists and 382 nurses selected by convenient sampling technique. After data collection, data was coded and analyzed statistically.

An atypical form of presentation of periosteal osteogenic sarcoma

The objective of this case is described as an unusual pathology and there should be taken into account as a differential diagnosis that is required a multidisciplinary attention to offer a better medical attention to patients. Introduction: Coeliac disease is an autoimmune mediated enteropathy. Red cell distribution width and mean platelet volume as an inflammatory marker in multiple sclerosis

Introduction: We aimed to investigate the possible association between MS and hemogram parameters (RDW and MPV and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the files of MS patients. Hemogram parameters were evaluated between attack and remission period and with control subjects. For each group, leukocyte count (WBC), neutrophil count (neu), lymphocyte count (lym), Hemoglobin (Hb), Hematocrit (Htc), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), red cell distribution width (RDW), platelet count (PLT) and mean platelet volume (MPV) levels were recorded.

Anaesthesia for day care surgeries: comparasion between thoracic and lumbar spinal anaesthesia

Background: Day care surgeries are becoming increasingly popular in the modern times. Hence day care anaesthesia has emerged as one of the fastest growing branches in modern anaesthetic practice. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is one of the most commonly performed day care surgeries. In this study we aimed at evaluating two different approaches for day care anaesthesia in laparoscopic cholecystectomies – thoracic vs lumbar. Materials and methods: 60 ASA 1 and 2 patients who were scheduled for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomies were divided into two groups.

The perception of smile esthetics in different malocclusions among orthodontists and laypersons – an eye tracking study

Background: One of the important aspect of facial esthetics is smile. Patients having malocclusion do not pose a full smile as they are conscious of the compromised esthetics of their dentition. Correction of malocclusion harmonizes the soft tissues and results in enhanced facial esthetics. In order to obtain a clinically satisfactory outcome, it is imperative one must understand that what is beautiful and attractive to the orthodontist and general dentists might not seem attractive to the patients.

Patterns of and reasons for tooth extractions in a saudi population

Aim: The aim of this study was to detect the patterns of and reasons for permanent tooth extractions in a Saudi population in Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: 318 Saudi patients aged ≥10 years residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with at least one permanent tooth extracted or diagnosed for extraction were randomly selected. The Study was carried out from September 2018to December 2018. The reason for extraction was documented whether by asking the patient why his/her tooth was extracted or by clinical and radiographic examination for the tooth diagnosed for extraction.
