A case of keinbock’s disease with negative ulnar variance and its management – A rare case report

Keinbock’s disease or Avascular Necrosis of lunate bone is a rare disorder leading to abnormal carpal motion. Although difficult to diagnose, detection in early stages of the disease and appropriate management can lead to a good functional outcome. Here, the authors present a case of 36 year old male who presented with Avascular necrosis of lunate bone of right wrist with Lichtman’s stage IIIA. The patient underwent joint levelling procedure by radial shortening osteotomy and associated benign cyst or geode drained and bone grafted.

Determining the main cause of death associated with maternal mortality by focusing the autopsies on cadavers

Background: Identifying and controlling medical and social risk factors contributing maternal mortality leads to minimize the rate of mortality particularly in developing nations. The present study aimed to determine risk factors associated with maternal death by focusing the autopsies on cadavers. Methods: In this retrospective study, the hospital recorded files related to 122 pregnant women aged 15 to 45 years who died because of perinatal death that referred to Legal Medical Center between April 2009 and April 2014 were reviewed.

A rare congenital liver disorder with varied clinical presentations –Report of two cases

Caroli’s disease and Caroli’s syndrome are rare congenital cystic disorders of intrahepatic biliary radicals. It is still unclear whether they represent distinct entities or, are different stages of the same disease distinguished by hepatic fibrosis. Here we are reporting two cases-a three-year-old boy presenting with portal hypertension, cholestatic jaundice and rickets, and a ten-year-old girl with recurrent episodes of cholangitis. They were diagnosed as Caroli’s syndrome and Caroli’s disease respectively.

Hypoglossal schwannoma: A case report

Hypoglossal schwannoma is a rarely encountered skull base lesion that has generally both intracranial and extracranial parts. This article reports a case of hypoglossal schwannoma that is purely extracranial and presents itself with right-sided hypoglossal palsy and a right-sided neck mass. Magnetic resonance imaging is very important, delineated a mass at the skull base that consisted of both cystic and solid components, consistent with a nerve sheath tumor but not done in this case because of lack of means. Cervical approach was chosen, and the mass was completely removed.

Hepatitis e in pregnant women at the saint camille hospital of ouagadougou in burkina faso: Prevalence and infection risk factors

Introduction: The hepatitis E virus (HEV) is responsible for 60% of viral hepatitis during pregnancy with a mortality rate approaching 20%. This mortality rate increases with gestational age. In Burkina Faso, few epidemiological studies have been conducted on HEV. This study aimed to detect HEV in pregnant women and to study the risk factors associated with infection. Methods: A total of 179 pregnant women were recruited at Saint Camille hospital of Ouagadougou (HOSCO). Anti-HEV IgM and IgG detection tests were performed using the ELISA method.

Cytology of carotid body tumor – An atypical presentation

Paragangliomas are tumors arising from the paraglion tissue which is well represented in the head and neck. Carotid body tumor is a paraganglioma situated at the bifurcation of the common carotid artery. We describe here a case of 32 year old male with painless swelling on the right side of the neck clinically diagnosed as right jugulodigastric region lymphadenopathy. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of the swelling was done.

Inflammatory fibroma of oral cavity- Review

Intra- oral fibrous overgrowths of the soft tissues are relatively common and may be benign reactive or neoplastic lesions. Among these localised fibrous growths Inflammatory fibroma has been found to be commonly occurring in the oral cavity. Inflammatory fibroma is a reactive focal fibrous hyperplasia caused by trauma or local irritation. This can be due to the irritants such as calculus, plaque, overhanging margins, dental appliances and trauma due to sharp cusp impinging on the mucosa.

Assessment of the different types of failure related to removable partial denture among patients visited piramerd dental center

Background: Patients’ satisfaction and complication rates of removable partialdentures (RPDs) can affect patient acceptance and compliance in using RPDs. Aim: this study aims to determine complications and rate of failure of RPDs. Methodology: This study evaluated the complaint of 70 patients (42 males, 28 females), aged between 38-67 years, who were treated with acrylic removable partial denture and suffering from one or more problems related to failure of the RPD.

Dna based pcr approach for the detection of mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in sputum samples

Objective: Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a molecular technique whose accuracy is determined by the choice of the target DNA and definition of the primers within the DNA sequence. Thus, we evaluate the performance of different genes specific for mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in sputum samples obtained from suspected cases of pulmonary tuberculosis.

Periapical healing after root canal treatment

The periapical tissues undergo changes during the progression of dental caries. In case of extensive bacterial invasion involving the pulp, apical periodontitis is typically the body's host response. In response to the injury, chemotaxis occurs. After the initiation of inflammation, macrophages, leukocytes and lymphocytes enter and comprises the bulk of periodontitis. Necrotic tissue within the pulp chamber and canals provide nutrients for pathogenic bacteria to grow and form a periapical lesion.
